The World Is Round Like A Football
Through a documentary series called “Football Made in Africa”, Belgian producer “Take Five” was able to capture the essence of African football like no other before. In Africa, fishing nets on a beach becomes football goals, and full-time comes when the incoming tide swamps the sandy pitch… Today, in more than 20 African countries, the only opportunities you get to play your favorite sport will come from the craftiness of you or one of your ingenious football buddies.
Enjoy this next month Africa, it’s your time to shine…
“Football Made” in Africa demonstrates all the creativity and dynamism of the peoples obliged to deploy a fair amount of cleverness and resourcefulness on a daily basis to be able to indulge in their passion: football. “
“Football Made in Africa” is a canvas on which African society is painted. The different episodes are the colors, applied one by one, that produce a diversified picture of today’s Africa.
We always loved to see bright DIY projects that use unconventional materials, especially when related to soccer. In light of the 2010 world cup starting this week, this video from “Football Made in Africa” definitely shows how creative the African can be when it comes to playing football. This is how you create a soccer ball from… a condom.

You are the ref!
You are the ref is a cult comic strip, illustrated by Paul Trevillion, and has been around for over 50 years. The premise is simple, people write in with difficult questions about the laws of football, Trevillion accompanies the question with an image and then a qualified referee, Keith Hackett, gives the correct ruling.
Trevillion is a unique bloke that has illustrated some classic comics such as Roy of the Rovers, drawn Bobby Moore, Pele, George Best, Franz Beckenbauer and even challenged Colin Montgomerie to a £1 000 000 put off (with all the money going to charity). Keith Hackett is a former international Referee but more notably Hackett’s from Sheffield.
History of the comic can be found here and the You are the ref books here.

Match Programme party
Thank you for all the support. Every day, we achieve our goals. Keep trucking RFC!

Luca lied to everyone. He said he was in Vietnam on vacation.

Mark loves Luca. He recently disowned Vince and made Luca his son instead.

Johnny and Luca are really good friends. They play video games online.

Luca and Patterson hold the RFC defense together. Can’t wait to see them play on Sunday.

Raj played a great game this past Sunday. I think he’s talking about the breakaway he almost scored. Or that sweet pass he served to Bart.

Doesn’t look like Romeo is impressed with Luca. There both “Chick Magnets” so there might be some jealousy there…

Projekt Pat.

The Saucemang (blurred on the right).

Our latest acquisition in the RFC. Morgan is a solid center back.

The Prints. Thanks to Dan Edge for all his help yo.

“Short Fuse” Bobby had a great game on Friday night. Did you see when that dude clipped him from behind? Bobby was a gentleman, even shook the guys hand and all… epic… a rare moment.

Our team captain Nick is observing the scene.

Our Keeper Rodrigo way in the back there. Doing what a Keeper does…

Extra love for everyone’s generosity… we raised quite an impressive sum of money for the club.

I think Johnny’s girlfriend was telling him how he should start playing again… he missed a few Wednesday sessions this winter.

Panna designed by Jurjen Semeijn
A “panna” is when someone puts the ball between your legs and runs off with it behind you. If many people are watching, then you hear “WOOOOOOOOOO” and “AHHHHHHHHHH”, as you melt in embarrassment. In FIFA Street, you’d lose tons of points. Anyhow, I fell on this, I wanted to share it…
”This piece was created in the true spirit of street soccer and incorporates many of the unwritten rules associated with it. The game is either played one-on-one or two against two and the focus is not only on scoring the most goals, but also on showing who is the best. First one who plays a ball in between the legs of the opponent wins.
It invites people to play and have fun, but also challenges them to think of new ways to play. While learning and interacting the notion that all players are individuals becomes apparent. Later on you see that the players are all wearing Nike sneakers, connecting the individualistic aspects of the game in a very subtle and subversive way to the brand without any loss of integrity.
Initially it was made for a Nike exhibition at 90sqm in Amsterdam celebrating the Air Max 90. After the exhibition it was displayed at Artgadgets in Eindhoven for a few months. Unfortunately it was demolished in an accident on the way to a shop location in Copenhagen, Denmark.”

Ruben Ramonda
I met Ruben through my buddy JK. “Yo Ang, you should meet my uncle Ruben. He’s crazy about football. He paints about the game. He get’s invited to galleries all over the world…” Before JK got to finish his last sentence, I had already gone back and forth by email with him.
I met “Rubes” a year and a half ago. He blew me away with his artwork. His philosophy and understanding of the game was mesmerizing. And once we saw him play… Oh man… his first touch is impeccable.
That’s Ruben there, between me and Arcadio, right behind the scarf. During Frostbite Cup this year, he helped us make the final. Our Argentinian friend still believes we had a chance to beat Tiger… hahaha!!! Below is the invite to his next art show, the 11th of May.

Albus
My buddy Jeremy sent me a link to this site. If you know me, then you know I’m yelling and shaking my head with this weird twitch I’ve developed where my eyes blink really fast. This is exactly how I see life. Please visit Albus, it’s a marketing and design firm from Brazil… if I understand correctly.
