Week 3

The Greeks give it a miss.  My father warned me about this day.  History repeats itself.  And as southern europe stood in disarray after the fall of Alexander it was left up to a mighty Roman, Augustus, to continue the progression of our civilisation.  But unfortunately I’m english, and at the time of Augustus, civilised was not something the english were well adversed with.  And on this day, with the greeks gone and no romans in site, I found myself in Brossard…alone, in charge of both teams and holding a large box of socks, more socks than I’d ever held before.

Division B

Luckily I quickly realised that I wasn’t there alone, I was there as part of Ringleaders FC and as I handed out the new socks to my team mates I knew we were capable of anything.  So at 4pm, RFC 2 lined up for their game against Real Montreal and the team stepped up and put in an extremely solid performance.  Unfortunately, we were limited to sharing the points with Real Montreal, with the post and crossbar presenting us with seemingly unfathomable problems, but with Rod making some extremely sharp saves we were not too disappointed with the draw and left the field somewhat content.  The game finished 2-2.

Division C

As RFC warmed up for their 5pm game against Once Amigos, the confidence we were taking from RFC 2’s performance in the first game quickly dissipated as I was faced with a referee holding a horribly inaccurate team sheet.  After 25 minutes of haggling with the flimsy bureaucracy we had to paid to govern us, two of our players were deemed illegible to play.  This ruling was outrageous and cloud of negativity and confusion descended upon the team.

This aura of confusion seriously affected our play and we lacked the concentration needed to put a stop to our somewhat consistent opponents.  We fell to defeat for the second week in a row with the lowly result of 6 to 1.  Heads dropped as we left and I knew it was going to take more than the return of the Greeks next week to pick us up.

After his much inspiring first goal of the season, Jesse Bowden is on the rise. Matchday three is on a “Brigade” tip, paying tribute to Dirty Rotten Imbeciles.

Week 1

It’s been awhile, but we’re back.

Both RFC teams marched together on the pitch last month. After a whole summer of pick up sessions and practice, and many new faces added, we joined the Total Campo league once again.

The “placement” tournament went well. We landed a squad in Division B and Division C respectively. As the official league season kicked off Sunday, November 15th 2009, both RFC teams played well. Let’s take a closer look…

Division B

After losing their first placement match to Lachine FC, the boys were ready for their comeback debut, winning 2-1. As the defense and midfield stayed solid, both RFC forwards Ian Kennedy and Danny Pexis shined throughout the match. Joas Trepanier was fully back and in great form, as he scored the opening goal. Danny Pexis then brought home the victory with 15 minutes left to play.

Division C

The first game is always a tough one, especially after the successful season we had last year. But it’s always good to get back together as a team and welcome some new faces into the fold, and welcome back some players from long term injuries (who were looking particularly hungry for some action).

We hadn’t had chance to develop any rhythm as a fully functioning squad yet, so there was only really one thing left for us to do and that was to scrap out a victory, and that was exactly what we did. The team came together, not with fluidity we had dreamed of the night before, but with a resounding stubbornness that was expressed all too naturally. A superb finish by Jesse Bowden, stylishly slotting the ball under the opposing keeper, inspired the 3-2 victory. We left Brossard pleased with ourselves and relieved but that was to be short-lived.

A new idea for the new season. Jeremy Wirth launched our very first match programme.
