Week 15

Division B

After a week break, our beloved Ringleaders had a tough match up against Division B 3rd place team Atlas Lions. It’s the second time both clubs face each other this season. It’s always good football.

RFC 2 had good rhythm, executing the ball from the defensive line, all through the midfield. Danny had 2 men on him at all time, so it was difficult to get to him.

We lost focus for half a minute, which gave Atlas Lions the lead of 1-0 at half time.

The Ringleaders came out strong in the 2nd half, but with little luck; Danny hit a post, Jonas as well. Again, by trying to pressure the attack, two deadly mistakes in defense brought us down to 3-0.

A solid ball from Angelo way back targeted to Danny’s foot brought our hopes up, but with little time left, the match ended 3-1 for Atlas Lions.

Division C

Fatigue is a reality, but not in this case. With many RFCers playing both matches today, they gave it all they had, displaying a beautiful effort and a great representation of football.

Naz was definitely on his heels, as he gave good passes to his midfielders, and also scored his very first goal for The Ringleaders.

Nyala had revenge on their mind, since we beat them earlier on this season. They scored 3 straight goals, to make it 3-1 in their favor at half time.

Late comer Bart came out roaring in the 2nd half, helping Max score 2 goals in less than 5 minutes. Dan had assisted on the plays. We had hope of winning this match.

But… wait a minute here. If you remember the disastrous match versus FC Alianza last December, then you remember that awful referee. We had him again. He cost us the match, and maybe our playoff chances as well.

If anyone at Total Campo is reading this, please hear us out. The referee (don’t know his name, and don’t want to either) let ten handballs go loose, which one of them cost us a goal. He also let a ridiculous confusing situation of a throw in end up as Nyala’s 4th goal, which made us lose the game. Even Nyala players couldn’t believe it was a goal. We respect and support your organization, but for the love of the game, please get rid of this awful referee.

Week 5

Division B

The snow storm couldn’t happen at a worst time! Right when people plan to leave their house and attend the venue. That left both us The Ringleaders and adversaries FC Pharaohs with few players to substitute with. Most showed up before half time though, that was quite relieving.

It was a solid game which I believe both teams played well. The referee made many mistakes numerous times especially with throw inns and corner kicks. For some reason he wouldn’t whistle after the whole ball would cross over the side line and all… real confusing.

We played very well together, our transition balls between the midfield and forwards were well executed. We were also tight defensively, and Rodrigo Riffo brought much confidence to us. Some player from the other squad released a canon side volley early on in the 1st half, but Rod “punched” it nice and clean over the crossbar. That kept us in the game for real.

RFC 2 won the match 4-1.

Division C

A difficult fixture against FC Alianza who were yet to lose. But following our solid performance last week we were looking to make a push up the table.

After going down to an early goal we were making a valiant effort to get back in the game and were putting some good moves together. That was when disaster struck.

Thanassi made a surging run into the opposition half and easily rounded one of the FC Alianza players, unfortunately the player made a dangerous lunging tackle completely missing the ball and making heavy contact with Thanassi’s knee.

It was immediately evident that this was a very serious injury and Thannasi would play no further part in the game. We now know that Thanasi’s out for the rest of the season, which is a tragic blow for him and the Ringleaders, something that has put a severe dampener on the whole season.

Losing such an influential player undoubtedly had a great impact on the team and we were never able to fully focus on the game thereafter. We lost 4-0, with the only highlight being an amazing penalty save by the always outstanding Giancarlo Talarico.
